Our Practice
Philosophy: The
physicians and staff of Northwest Neurology, Ltd., strive to
provide the highest quality of care for our patients. We believe
in compassion and professionalism, and are dedicated to the
patients we serve. We are privileged to work beside physicians
we respect, and are committed to the community in which we
practice.
Northwest Neurology was founded in 1983. Over
the last 25 years Northwest Neurology has grown from a single
physician in solo practice to one of the largest private
practice neurology groups in the Chicago area. The group has
expanded to include 9 neurologists and a certified nurse
practitioner. Each physician in our practice maintains interest
and expertise in all areas of neurology, and has additional
subspecialty interests. We have office locations in Arlington
Heights, Hoffman Estates, and a recently expanded, new office in
Lake Barrington.
Our Commitment
Northwest Neurology has participated in multiple research
studies to promote the scientific understanding and treatment of
neurological disorders. As evidence of an on going
commitment to state of the art medical care, Northwest Neurology
physicians have been appointed Stroke Directors at many of the
leading area hospitals, and maintain active contacts with
colleagues at major university hospitals.
The Multiple Sclerosis Center of Northwest Neurology is
recognized by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (www.nmss.org)
and The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (www.mscare.org).
Directed by Dr. George Katsamakis, who comes to the group from
Rush University, the center is one of the largest of its kind,
caring for nearly 1500 MS patients. Dr. Katsamakis has focused
his training and clinical practice on MS and is internationally
recognized for his expertise in diagnosing and treating multiple
sclerosis and related disorders. All of Northwest Neurology’s
physicians are involved and are dedicated to offering the best
possible treatment to patients with multiple sclerosis in a
comprehensive and caring manner. In office infusion therapy is
offered to patients requiring treatment with Tysabri, a new
treatment for multiple sclerosis. The infusion center, on-site
neuropsychological testing, and in-office MRI help to foster
comprehensive, convenient and cost-effective treatment for
multiple sclerosis patients.
Northwest Neurology’s neurologists emphasize thoroughness and
attention to detail. Northwest Neurology has fellowship trained
and experienced electromyographers, and EMG testing is available
in each Northwest Neurology office. With expertise in managing
neuromuscular diseases such as myasthenia gravis and neuropathy,
as well as back pain, neck
pain, carpal tunnel, and pinched nerves, the physicians devise a
diagnostic and treatment plan with the patient, and work to
treat the underlying cause as well as the symptoms that afflict
the patient. Dr. Daniele Anderson offers expertise in botulinim
toxin injections for treatment of dystonia, spasticity and
neuromuscular conditions as well as headache.
When patients suffer from more highly complex conditions, such
as medication refractory Parkinson's disease, new and cutting
edge treatments are considered, including possible surgical
treatments. If surgery is pursued, post-operative care and deep
brain stimulator adjustments can be made by Northwest
Neurology’s neurologists. Similarly, in the uncommon
circumstance of medication resistant seizure disorders, the
possible benefits of epilepsy surgery are considered, and
Northwest Neurology’s connections with nationally recognized
epilepsy centers are utilized to foster the best possible
treatments.
