Dementia & Other Cognitive Disorders
Dementia is not a specific disease; rather it is a term that describes a wide array of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills that interfere with a person’s ability to perform everyday activities. Alzheimer’s disease accounts for approximately 60% of all cases, but dementia may also be caused by vascular dementia, Lewy body disease and multiple other disorders as well. Some medical conditions that can mimic dementia are reversible, and our team is committed to providing a comprehensive, individualized evaluation for each patient, starting with a complete history and exam. Imaging, neuropsychological evaluation and other testing may be performed as well when needed.
