A sleep study is a non-invasive, overnight exam that allows sleep doctors to monitor your brain, breathing, and physiologic functions while you sleep.
These tests are done in a sleep center, a hospital setting or increasingly in your own home with portable equipment. During a sleep study, you are connected to wires and cameras that record your brain waves, breathing and monitor your sleep. Neurologists specializing in sleep medicine assess your central and peripheral nervous systems functions, as you enter the different stages of sleep. Your eye movements, oxygen levels, heart and breathing rates are also assessed.
Once the sleep study is complete, neurologists specializing in sleep medicine can make a definitive diagnosis and collaboratively implement the appropriate treatment plan. Your doctor will then partner with you to monitor and treat your condition.
We offer at home sleep tests in all of our offices. Simply bring the equipment home, complete the sleep study in the comfort of your own bed, then return the equipment to the office. Your doctor will then meet with you to review the results and implement a treatment plan.
