Many people avoid testing out of fear of getting bad news. But neurological disorders need to be correctly diagnosed so that the specialists can build an adequate treatment plan. At Northwest Neurology, we use advanced procedures to identify a variety of neurological issues, and one of them is the electromyography (EMG).
Our EMG in Elk Grove will identify problems like:
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Ulnar neuropathy
- Peroneal neuropathy
- Radiculopathy and similar conditions
- Diabetic neuropathy
- Multifocal Motor
- Guillan Barre
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
- Myopathy and toxic Myopathy
- Brachial plexus
- Lumbosacral plexus
There are many others that we’re able to accurately identify and treat, so long as we take proper actions in time. This is why we urge you to come in for an EMG diagnosing as fast as possible. Many conditions tend to aggravate in the long run and only by placing an early diagnosis can we take the appropriate measures.
How does the procedure work?
The EMG aims to evaluate your muscle activity and the presence of pain due to faulty nerve impulses. The procedure is usually performed together with nerve conduction studies (NCS), for extensive mapping of the nerve and muscle functioning. In the first phase, the neurologist will place electrodes on the skin.
These will analyze the speed of the electrical current through the muscles, and they are part of a non-invasive procedure. Another mechanism relies on intramuscular EMG in Elk Grove, where a monopolar needle electrode goes inside the muscle tissue. Aside from the conditions mentioned above, EMG is also used to identify muscle fatigue.
Is the procedure safe?
EMG is a low-risk technique, with only minor and rare side-effects occurring, like bleeding, local infection or nerve injury. Other than that, the procedure has no drawbacks, but it delivers extensive benefits. Being able to identify problems like pinched nerves or motor neuron diseases in time will ease the treating process significantly.
The procedure is not only safe but also with a minimum of discomfort involved. Our staff will make sure to welcome you to a relaxing setting and with a friendly attitude.
