      Epilepsy Neurologist Chicago Suburbs

Northwest Neurology’s physicians provide comprehensive evaluation and management for those with seizure disorder/epilepsy.

Incorporating the latest techniques available, Northwest Neurology’s neurologists emphasize patient-centered, integrated care. EEG, video-EEG, neuropsychology and MRI with epilepsy protocol are available on-site.

Our providers work closely with each other and with the patient to assure optimal medication management, as well as referral for vagal nerve stimulators (VNS) and epilepsy surgery when necessary.

VNS interrogation and adjustments can be administered on-site as well.

      Common Types of Seizures

Generalized Seizures involved whole-body stiffening and shaking. These seizures cause loss of consciousness and the patient could be injured during the episode.

Simple Partial Seizures cause a change in muscle activity. For example, a person may have abnormal movements such as jerking of a finger or stiffening of part of the body.

Complex Partial Seizures usually start in the temporal lobe or frontal lobe of the brain. These seizures can quickly spread and affect alertness and level of awareness. If the symptoms are subtle, other people may think the person is just daydreaming. There may also twitching or jerking movements. Some people may have involuntary movements of their mouth, pick at the air or their clothing, or perform other purposeless actions. These movements are called automatism.
