Northwest Neurology’s Neuropsychology program provides outpatient neuropsychological evaluations.
These evaluations consist of a clinical interview followed by paper and pencil (and sometimes, computer) assessment of a patient’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses. As information from loved ones is often pertinent to diagnosis, patients are encouraged to bring a representative familiar with their condition to their appointment. Also, if a patient wears glasses or hearing aids, be sure to bring these along as well. Patients and family members are often curious as to how long an evaluation will take; generally, these appointments last between 2-4 hours.
Neuropsychological evaluations can help to profile the underlying cause of cognitive dysfunction, provide insight to help patients and physicians better understand diagnoses, and help to delineate the impact of a neurological disorder on a patient’s thinking and emotional well-being. Neuropsychological evaluations can also help to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
The Neuropsychology program provides evaluations and treatment recommendations for patients with known or suspected neurological conditions (e.g. stroke, brain tumor, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, lewy body disease, other dementia types) as well as other medical conditions that can impact a person’s thinking and/or emotional functioning.
