      About Social Work Services at Northwest Neurology


      Northwest Neurology’s on-site licensed clinical social workers offer outpatient-based counseling services for older adults. Our counselors are experienced with neurological conditions and can assist patients and their care partners with developing healthy coping skills as they navigate multiple sources of stress. Our goal is to help patients and families improve their emotional well-being.

      Counseling

      We offer one-on-one counseling services to patients or care partners and small group counseling sessions with patients and their support systems.

      We can assist with issues such as:

      • Adjustment to medical conditions
      • Anxiety and panic disorders
      • Behavior management
      • Coping with cognitive change
      • Depression
      • General stress management
      • Navigating a new diagnosis of dementia or Parkinson’s Disease
      • Pain management

      Our social workers can also link patients and care partners to services that help maintain independence and ultimately maximize quality of life.

      We have resources and connections relating to:

      • Advanced directives
      • Community-based resources, such as transportation or support for maintaining independence at home
      • Dementia and other neurological disorders
      • Legal assistance, such as locating an elder law attorney
      • Long-term care planning
      • Medicare and Medicaid
      • Memory loss care, including Alzheimer’s Disease and general dementia care
      • Palliative and hospice care
      • Social Security and disability
      • Support groups for patients, families, and care partners

      Insurances Accepted

      The providers of Northwest Neurology accept most insurances. Click here to see the most current list. All patients are encouraged to verify their benefits with their plan administrator by referring to their insurance membership card for contact information. If you have an HMO plan, please make sure that you have the proper referrals required by your plan. Please note we do not accept Medicaid plans.

      Danielle Hellios

      Danielle Hellios is a licensed clinical social worker with a master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago. She has extensive experience working with older adults living with dementia and other neurological diseases. She also has significant expertise in leading individual and group counseling sessions for patients, families and care partners. Her warm and personable communication style is an asset to those learning to navigate the challenges of a neurological illness. The services she offers are designed to elevate quality of life and help all involved feel supported and informed.
